Don’t get attached, because it wont last long.
On a friend’s recommendation (the same one that got me hooked on Happy Endings) I watched a few episodes of the show Reaper. I did not give this show a chance while it was originally on air and now I wish I had. This show just confirms the fact that the most frustrating thing for a television viewer is when you discover a show that you love and that show is already canceled, and had less than three seasons.
It is also a fact that the 2007-2008 Writers Strike managed to kill any and all new shows that might have been able to survive otherwise if they had not been released during such a tumultuous time in television history.
So, in honor of the shows that were cut down far before their time, I will be starting my “Not Forgotten Friday” posts.
Today’s gone but not forgotten show is Reaper. It is sort of like mixing Buffy the Vampire Slayer with Community. The quirky humor combined with elements of the supernatural make it quite enjoyable to watch. The protagonist, Sam Oliver (our resident reaper/bounty hunter), is likable and easy to root for. His sidekicks are fun to watch and many scenes are stolen by his best friend Sock. However, the real shining star of the show is the Devil. Maybe it is my penchant for charming yet evil men, but I cannot get enough of the Devil (played by Ray Wise). With lines like “Get the girl! Get the soul! I don’t care which man, just pull that trigger!” it’s hard to not love the character.
The only down side to watching it now is knowing how I only have two short seasons to enjoy it. Oh cruel executives and your quick cutting axe.
